Cover for Reform Judaism

Most of the jobs I do are people so this was a fun challenge. When I started sketching out ideas, I immediately saw a dramatic lighting and emotion playing out in my head . . . so the challenge for me was to try and get that to come out the way I invisioned. I'm pretty happy with the way this turned out, my favorite part is the sky, to me there's a sense of peace even though what's going on below is mayhem.

Great stuff again, man. Funny, I was just dropping by here to grab your George Bush image as inspiration (working on my own caricature illustration currently), and I find this post! Great to see you tackle this kind of image. I like it a lot. Great texture on the board.

It is just amazing.. I always see your job to get inspiration for mine.. I would like to ask you something if you agree with share it.. do you work with cmyk colors or with rgb colors in PS?.. As I can see, you are a so talent artist, and I think that you will be mad if there is something wrong with the colors in the press process.. Thanks..

Thanks Marco, I'm honored that my work inspires you, I'd love to see what you're working on!

Thank you "bog_art" as far as my work in PS, I work in cmyk and convert to rgb for emailing the artwork, I always work at 300dpi. And yes, it is very frustrating when something you worked very hard on prints different then what you actually did. Sometimes art directors actually change and tweak things too.

These last ones, specially the Bush and that hand were pretty consuming right? How long did it take you?

Jason - the thing that inspires me most with your work is that you can reach quite a high level of finish, yet still keep all that life. Most of my training in drawing and painting comes from working in concept design and animation, where we learn to capture something quickly and accurately, but never really bring things to a 'finished' level. I'm glad I learned that way, but it has also unintentionally created a small barrier for me when really focusing in on a painting. I'm doing a personal illustration right now with that intention, and looking at your stuff has flicked on a few switches in my brain. It'll be on my blog soon!

Thank you much Marco, that's encouraging to hear. I wish I had some of your training, looking at the work and blogs of some of those animators out there is a little intimidating . . . pushes me further for sure. With the chess pieces I really focused on making them feel alive, I tried to give them personality and a purpose, tried to tell a story. It was a fun piece to do.

Caricaturas, thank you . . . I'm not sure how long they took . . . but they took a few days at least.

And thank you Tucios, I love your work!
